At the western end of the city of ancient Volsinii (modern-day Orvieto) is the small catacomb of Gratte, which consists of a large main gallery branching off into a further three narrow tunnels.

Along the walls of the tunnels are some loculi in a stack of two or three, placed one above the other.

The dating of the cemetery may be gleaned as a result of the similarities, especially of epigraphic finds, drawn with the most famous catacomb of St. Christina.
