The ‘Polo Museale’, inaugurated in 2013, aims to collect and preserve a series of marble artefacts, mainly recovered from the territory of St Callixtus. It was conceived as a true exhibition space, designed to illustrate, through its findings, the history of the Christianisation of the surrounding territory. The early profane sarcophagi are exhibited alongside those of a more neutral and allegorical character, thus transporting the visitor to the era of Constantine, when the histories of the Old and the New Testament were chosen as the preferred subjects for ancient funerary sculpture.
