Description

The cemetery, located at the third mile of the Via Labicana, today Via Casilina, was dedicated to the memory of the two martyrs buried here in the times of Emperor Diocletian (304 AD). The place was a destination for pilgrimages and there were many changes that were made in the catacombal environment by several popes over the centuries. The beginning of the excavation of the catacomb dates back to the second half of the third century and there are countless frescoed rooms that can be seen here. In the catacombs it is possible to see historical artifacts such as tombstones that covered the niches with the signs used by the early Christians to indicate their creed.
